World’s Biggest Fusion Reactor Now in Assembly Phase

Construction on the ITER fusion reactor, which is a joint project by 35 nations (the United States, Russia, China, India, Japan, South Korea, Switzerland, and the 28 European Union countries) has begun, moving the revolutionary technology from a concept to physical reality.

The reactor, which is being built in southern France, is intended to serve as a blueprint for commercial fusion reactors.

Although the construction of a fusion reactor is extremely expensive, fusion, in theory, has the potential to provide nearly unlimited energy, as it only requires tritium and deuterium (water isotopes) as energy and produces helium as a waste product. The process of fusion is the same process which is happening inside the sun.

The biggest challenges are maintaining a continuous fusion reaction and containing the extreme temperature plasma inside the reactor. The latter is accomplished by gigantic magnets all around the reactor.

ITER brings the dream of unlimited energy one step closer to reality. The construction is expected to take about four to five years.

Trump Considering to Pardon Snowden

President Trump said that he is “very strongly” looking at pardoning NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden. The move was immediately condemned by senior Democrats, including Barack Obama’s former national security adviser Susan Rice.

In 2013, Snowden revealed to the American public that the National Security Agency (NSA) was conducting mass surveillance on American citizens on an unimaginable scale. This led to a public debate about the scale of the surveillance state, which had at that point far exceeded the boundaries of the U.S. Constitution.

Even though Snowden, who had joined the American intelligence community out of love for his country, acted to inform the American public about power abuses committed against the American people, the Obama administration treated him as a traitor and went to great lengths to arrest him.

Since it was apparent that he could not expect a fair trial in the United States, Snowden fled to Hong Kong, from where he sought asylum in numerous countries, including Ecuador and Germany. However, due to interventions by the Obama administration, each country eventually refused his request, except Russia, where he has been living since.

While Snowden is regarded by most people around the world and in the U.S. as a hero who made great personal sacrifices to reveal grave wrongdoing, many senior government officials in America wanted him behind bars.

President Trump’s consideration of a pardon for Edward Snowden is the first glimpse of hope for the whistleblower to possibly be able to safely return to America after all.

Donald Trump Donates Quarterly Salary to Repair National Monuments

When he became President, Donald Trump pledged that he would work for free and not accept to be paid by the American people. By law, the President of the United States is paid an annual salary of $400,000. Since he legally cannot reject the payment, he always donates his salary for a cause in the interest of the United States.

Historic Breakthrough: Israel and the United Arab Emirates Sign Deal and Re-Establish Diplomatic Relations

U.S. President Donald Trump has brokered a historic agreement between two nations who were so hostile to each other that they had no diplomatic relations with each other at all. In fact, citizens of Israel were not even allowed to enter the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Overzealous Atlanta DA Ousted in Election

The Fulton County, Georgia, district attorney who in June charged an Atlanta police officer with murder after the officer killed a suspect who attacked him and stole his taser, lost his reelection to his former deputy. The DA had brought the murder charges just five days after the incident and did not even await the investigation of the GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigation).

Sweden’s Success

A new study finds that by refusing to lock its people down or impose draconian restrictions, Sweden got through the Coronavirus-crisis with no more casualties than comparable countries with very harsh measures, such as Belgium.

However, due to the increased herd immunity which Swedes have built in the process, Sweden is now in a much less vulnerable position than other countries. E.g. there is little risk for a “second wave” in Sweden, as most people there have already built immunity through exposure to the virus – an enormous advantage as we are facing the colder seasons of the year, with their annual influenza waves.

Covid-19: Lockdown vs. Freedom – See For Yourself

While many politicians responded to the Wuhan-Coronavirus by taking away their citizens most basic civil liberties, including the right to work, assemble, or even movement, Sweden imposed no restrictions at all.

Michigan is the most extreme example of restricting human rights to “flatten the curve” (even as hospitals were empty) and governor Whittemer has kept the state under the most invasive lockdown for almost half a year now.

Meanwhile, Sweden has imposed no mandatory restrictions, no mask mandate or anything of that sort. Swedes went on with their lives, are not wearing masks, and did not shutter their small businesses or end social interactions.

Both places have almost exactly the same population size, standard of living, similar climate, population density etc. Use of public transportation and public gatherings are more common in Sweden, leading to closer, more frequent interactions between strangers than in Michigan.

Interestingly, Sweden is doing no worse than Michigan, when it comes to Covid-19. This field experiment illustrates how useless the restrictions (shutdowns, distancing, masks, etc.), that places like Michigan imposed, are.

Freedom apparently works.
