We CAN Protect the most Vulnerable AND Reopen the Economy
Stop the Fear!
Hospitals are empty and laying off staff. Saving lives requires ending the shutdowns immediately.
Elon Musk Does Not Mince Words About Shelter-in-Place-Orders
“Frankly, I would call it forcible imprisoning of people in their homes against all of their constitutional rights.” Tesla Motors and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk was very direct about how he views the imprisonment of millions of Americans.
The measures were originally justified with the goal of “flattening the curve”, i.e. spreading out infections enough to allow hospital capacity to keep up. As this goal has long been over-accomplished, the narrative has since shifted in places that want to keep the lockdowns in place, despite drastically corrected data.
“If somebody wants to stay in their house, that’s great and they should be able to,” Musk continued, “but to say that they cannot leave their house and they will be arrested if they do, this is fascist. This is not democratic, this is not freedom, give people back their goddamn freedom.”
Musk’s sentiment is shared by a growing number of Americans, as the house-arrest-like lockdowns and restrictions keep getting extended without a clear end in sight, despite the fact that these measures slow down developing desperately needed herd-immunity and are therefore considered counterproductive by many experts.
While a growing number of Americans are wondering whether they will ever regain full freedom, it is encouraging to see influential people like Musk passionately voice what millions in our country think.

We The People Are More Powerful Than Many Realize
Protests across the country have swayed several governors stance on counterproductive shutdowns. An encouraging sign that We The People do have power.

Texas Reopening
Texas Governor Greg Abbott is among the brave governors who are responding to the corrected Wuhan-Coronavirus models and are reopening their states. Sadly, it won’t be a full reopening yet, but it is a significant step in the right direction and should encourage other states as well.
New York Hospital Doctor Pleads: End Restrictions ASAP!
Daniel G. Murphy, M.D., a physician on the Wuhan-Coronavirus frontlines at a hospital in the Bronx explains from a medical perspective, why lockdowns and distancing are counterproductive at this point. His conclusion: the sooner we stop being afraid and the sooner we go back to normal (not some eerie “new normal”), the better off we all will be.

Oklahoma Reopens
“You have to go back and think about why we closed down in the first place,” Governor Kevin Stitt says.
Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt is among the few who remember that the point of the shutdowns was to “flatten the curve” (i.e. slow the process of herd immunization by exposure to the virus enough to ensure that hospital capacity remains available for the few cases with complications), not to wait until nobody ever dies anymore, or a vaccine is ready. As this goal has been accomplished in his state (as in the vast majority of states), he is doing the right thing by lifting the restrictions.

Georgia Ends Shutdown
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp shows courage to do what appears prudent given the numbers, regardless of what critics and the media say. His executive order that placed the state under a lockdown with few exceptions, was already supposed to expire on April 3rd, but was extended until the end of the month, damaging many citizens’ trust in their elected officials’ words. Now, Kemp is finally convinced that there is more hospital capacity than required to stem any potential demand due to the Wuhan-Coronavirus and promised to do the only right thing under that circumstance: let the order expire. The fact that he appears to remain steadfast despite massive criticism, deserves respect. Hopefully other governor’s and mayor’s will follow his example.
