Privatizing prisons has once been a convenient way for many mayors and governors across America to create one-time revenue for their budget. Unfortunately, this also created vested commercial interests in having as many people as possible behind bars for as long as possible – at the taxpayer’s expense. This situation inevitably caused conflicts of interest.
Nashville now took the courageous step to reverse this problematic decision of the past and put the last privately run prison in Davidson county back under the authority of the Sheriff.
