This step deserves applause as so-called no-knock warrants put the lives of both police officers and residents at risk.
When a no-knock warrant is issued, police break into a residence without announcing their presence. To individuals inside the residence, this act is indistinguishable from a violent home invasion by a burglar, putting the life of the resident(s) at immediate risk.
The Memphis police department now announced that is ending this dangerous and constitutionally questionable practice. Other police departments have also abandoned the practice and some never used it in the first place.
