Covid-19: Lockdown vs. Freedom – See For Yourself

While many politicians responded to the Wuhan-Coronavirus by taking away their citizens most basic civil liberties, including the right to work, assemble, or even movement, Sweden imposed no restrictions at all.

Michigan is the most extreme example of restricting human rights to “flatten the curve” (even as hospitals were empty) and governor Whittemer has kept the state under the most invasive lockdown for almost half a year now.

Meanwhile, Sweden has imposed no mandatory restrictions, no mask mandate or anything of that sort. Swedes went on with their lives, are not wearing masks, and did not shutter their small businesses or end social interactions.

Both places have almost exactly the same population size, standard of living, similar climate, population density etc. Use of public transportation and public gatherings are more common in Sweden, leading to closer, more frequent interactions between strangers than in Michigan.

Interestingly, Sweden is doing no worse than Michigan, when it comes to Covid-19. This field experiment illustrates how useless the restrictions (shutdowns, distancing, masks, etc.), that places like Michigan imposed, are.

Freedom apparently works.
